HiFi

HiFi
High Fidelity, commonly called HiFi, is a norm that indicates how faithfully a sound source is to the original production or recording. The goal is to recreate the original sound with minimal distortion – everything to make the reproduction sound as realistic as possible.

Today the term HiFi is commonly used to describe a stereo system that aims to deliver a better, more natural, and more rewarding sound than a cheaper system. Think in terms of the different experience you get driving a fine sports car, as opposed to a normal car.

True HiFi enthusiasts, often called audiophiles, sometimes go to extremes in their ambition to achieve the perfect sound. Their ‘stereo equipment of choice’ is often referred to as ‘high-end’, costing considerably more than what the average person would be willing to pay for. To continue with the sports car metaphor, a high-end stereo system equates to a Lamborghini or an Aston-Martin.
